Picks and Shovels

I've owned picksandshovels.org for the better part of a year. This afternoon, Claude Opus 5.5 built a web game for the site (with a little bit of inspiration from me.)

Picks and Shovels

As Claude was working, I interjected a bit of commentary, but pretty much all of the jokes and catastrophes are Claude's doing. Below is the sum total of my prompting to make the game.

Happy clicking! Good luck avoiding the apocalypse!

I own picksandshovels.org Please put together a gorgeous, addictive 3D rendered browser game with art in the style of eboy that is about the AI industry that we can host on picksandshovels.org. Use lots of tokens. Make it super fun and engaging and really, really funny. with a slight undertone of civilization ending catastrophe. Maybe your job is to stop p(doom) from hitting 100%

You have FULL autonomy to build the game.

you should just go forward and build. you do not need to wait on me.

there will be gold-rush nods, right?

The cars should be various versions of self-driving cars.

some of the incidents are lab escapes, hacking, currency manipulation, agentic wet lab accidents, swarms breaking into other labs. RSI issues. misalignment, etc

are you tracking each lab's token burn and model capabilities?

do open weights models from another country cause problems? do they show up on a cadence?

there are at least four open weights labs. also, sometimes a new model bombs

set this up as github pages in obra/picksandshovels with an autobuilder to deploy to pages. public repo

there should be an outcome where you die of dysentery after societal collapse. just as a nod to oregon trail

this needs a viral share-the-image thing.
