A letter home from study abroad
Once again, it's two am on a school night and I'm just getting around
to writing my journal entry...i should learn better habits..but I
procrastinated for a while by cleaning my room tonight...My friend
Martina helped me by writing some email on my notebook while I
cleaned...in this way,I wasn't even tempted to take a break to play
around..
Today, during the break between first and second classes, I
called Todd at CCI. (the place I'm contracting with) He told me that
Renault (the guy in charge of IT at Renissance Capital (the place I
was yesterday) was really impressed with me and that he had
encouraged Todd not to let me leave the country in december, but to
stay on full time. Renault apparently went on to say that if
Todd/CCI didn't do this, he/RenCap would. I'm quite flattered, but
I'm quite returning to the states in december.
After class today, I headed off to visit Olga Aleksandrovna
and her new school again.. I thought that today was going to be the
day when I talked to 10th graders about the american educational
system....But no...I got to chat with the teachers....they want to
pick up american slang....so I got to explain such wonderful
expressions as "to be into something" and "hip and trendy." The
session ran for about an hour. Apparently the deal is that I'll do a
total of 5 such sessions and get paid 300,000 rubles total at the
end. Not such bad money...obviously not as good as consulting...but
I can cope...I'm only really doing this as a favor to olga, anyway.
After the discussion, I helped olga translate a letter to a school in
the states into english.
This evening, I've just been hanging around...packing,
sweeping, etc. See y'all in two weeks.
